He’s completely loveable when he talks to the boys, super in control when he deals with Charis, and just completely heart-melting whenever he talks to Frederica. Amazon Second Chance Pass it on, trade it in, give it a second life. Merriville family show up. I especially loved Felix!

I love that he explores frederia attachment to them and realizes that he is fond of them not only for Frederica but in spite of her. Blame the Marquis of Alverstoke. Frederica is a great heroine. Although Alverstoke has no particular interest in the Merriville family at first, he gradually finds himself drawn into their circle. I agree with another commenter who said that this book is not particularly romantic. A letter from Miss Frederica Merriville is about to change his life forever.
Frederica, so honest and serious and self effacing, is a breath of fresh air among the many heroines we encounter in an endless parade of romance novels.
I had a hard time stopping the audiobook. It’s not just Pork Jelly darn it, it’s restorative Pork Jelly!

Frankly, I wanted to hate him. So hip-hip-hooray for Georgette Heyer and a delightful story that took georgeette by surprise Frederica is a book about two families. To further this end, she brings the family from their country home to London and introduces herself to a distant relation, the ueyer and indolent Marquis of Alverstoke, asking him to sponsor her sister into “the ton” and the subsequent Season.
But then Frederica’s young brothers show up, and 13 year old Felix quizzes the Marquis on the latest fascinating technology, like locomotives and blast-pipes and pneumatic lifts, and after that her sweet and gorgeous if rather airheaded younger sister Charis appears, the epitome of all that is Regency-era loveliness, and it occurs to Alverstoke that it would be quite amusing to hold that come-out ball and launch Charis into society along with frederixa nieces. Alverstoke is fascinated by her frank and open manners, unlike the society manners of London’s fashionable ladies.
